The traditional folk music of the Bavarian culture of the Alpine mountain region remains largely unchanged from its 19th century peak; a recent rise in the number of amateur players resulted in a new interest in the preservation of authenticity and tradition. At the same time, however, Bavarian music has been subject to radical reassessment -- many contemporary performers are committed to experimentation, regularly fusing traditional Alpine music with wildly eclectic sounds adopted from various points across the globe.
