The Monkees

Tapioca Tundra

Song Review by

Easily one of the most interesting Michael Nesmith recordings in his Monkees days, "Tapioca Tundra" is one of the flipped-out highlights on The Birds, the Bees & the Monkees. Opening with a slow, traditional country melody that surrounds a heavily echoed Nesmith "countdown," the song soon segues into a positively gorgeous Latin/Tex-Mex melody and tempo. The end of each resolved in a musical quite from the Byrds "Feel a Whole Lot Better." The lyrics are another case of Nesmith grafting some of his free-association, stand-alone poetry to music, making this a true tone poem.
