The opening track to the MC5's High Time marked a slightly different change of direction for the group. Eschewing the political/social leaning of their previous albums, the band hits the boards running with a somewhat amusing and surreal comic book sexuality that is positivily engaging. Led by the dual guitar attack of Fred "Sonic" Smith and Wayne Kramer, the melody explodes into a combination of proto-punk and heavy metal, all the while propelled by an unrelenting boogie rhythmic base. Despite lacking some of the political slants of early work, it was clear that the band was blossoming, despite the fact that this was to be their last album. But what a way to go.
