Song Review by

Another outtake from The Fantastic Expedition of Dillard & Clark, "Lyin' Down the Middle" was the B-side of the exquisite "Why Not Your Baby?" An affectionate tip of the hat to the Everly Brothers' style (especially the "Wake Up Little Susie" acoustic guitar riff), the song is a perfect marriage between bluegrass, country, and pop/rock. Lyrically, Clark uses the theme of travel to illustrate the distance that has grown between himself and a lover. In a way, this is a continuation of the theme he presented in "The Radio Song" from the aforementioned Dillard & Clark debut album, and it is now part of the Edsel reissue.
