Song Review by

One of Donovan's most elaborate and underappreciated songs, "Peregrine" is a variation of an ancient Scottish folk song with a neo-classical, Eastern feel. The rhythm of the song is performed on a tabla and harkens back to some of the rhythmic experimentation on the Sunshine Superman album. There is a dark foreboding in the lyrics -- at least the surface -- yet underneath this it appears to be a deeply emotional song about friendship.
