Tim Buckley

Moulin Rouge

Song Review by

A true oddity in the Tim Buckley catalog, "Moulin Rouge" is a direct pop confection -- an experiment that actually succeeds very well. A lilting French pop melody, complete with a requisite muted trumpet, it showcased Buckley's mostly ignored talents as a pop assimilator, and after listening to this song and the ease Buckley sings it with, it's painfully obvious that he could have quite easily adapted other, more commercial styles with mass success. Sung in French, it's a bit hard to decipher if you don't know the language, but the romantic croon makes it obvious that it is indeed a French love song.
