The Monkees

Midnight Train

Song Review by

Another off-the-cuff recording by Mickey Dolenz and his sister, Coco, during the Monkees' Headquarters sessions, this song eventually appeared in a full-band version on the Changes album. This version, however (now available on Headquarters Sessions), is much more charming. A sort of Johnny Cash/Hank Snow parody/tribute, it's a fast-paced folk-country ballad of gambling, traveling, and carousing. The vocal performance by Dolenz is wholly charming.
