Randy Newman

Bet No One Ever Hurt This Bad

Song Review by

Built around a mournful, slow blues pattern, "Bet No One Ever Hurt This Bad" was one of the highlights of Randy Newman's solo debut album. With lyrics relating to sitting by the window, listening to the rain, waiting for the phone to ring, and so on, Newman uses simple but effective imagery to convey his motley mood. This indeed was a trademark in a large part of his work. While not covered extensively, Linda Ronstadt did an excellent version of this minor classic.
