Rufus Wainwright

April Fools

Composed by Rufus Wainwright

Song Review by

Probably the most accessible song and recording on Rufus Wainwright's debut solo album, "April Fools" contains possibly one of the catchiest and most hook-filled choruses in contemporary pop memory. A sterling drum track from Jim Keltner drives the song, underlined by Wainwright's powerful piano work. Essentially a love song, it can be seen as about people in general, or a simple, two-person relationship. As with many of his songs, the wordplay here keeps the listener's attention, making this one of the most unique singles of the modern pop era.
