Albert Hallenberg

My music mix veers from classic rock (prefer deep cuts) to adult alternative, a fairly large tree with lots of branches. So, everything from The Beatles to Sheryl Crow & Joni Mitchell to Incubus.

Albert Hallenberg's Song Reviews

In 1968, The Rolling Stones released this single, which would become a banner flag of rock music for decades to come. It is no coincidence that since 1968, the Stones have performed the song at EVERY full-length concert they have given (that is in the thousands, folks).
The lyrics are wonderfully obscure, but still obvious enough that the song references a glorious ruffian who still thrives despite being 'crowned with a spike through my head.' That universal attitude of youthful defiance has rung true through the ages.
I have read an interesting anecdote where Bill Wyman claims to have come up with the terrific riff & then Mick & Keith later provided the lyrics. Some sour grapes maybe, but, man, does Bill play some awesome bass lines (thanks to producer Jimmy Miller for making sure those were up front - I remember distinctly hearing them on my tinny AM radio, yes, back in 1968!).
I have listened to this song at least a thousand times & I never tire of it. I give it an A++
