Doomy melodic brilliance, an album heavy sound wise and thematically wise which deals very much on the big questions of the why and what were here for, heady stuff indeed.
While an album this heavy lyrically would fall flat on its face in lessers hands this band has the talent and know how to have the backdrops and arrangements to hold these concepts up. This album can be listened to in two ways actually you can focus in on the lyrical content or alternatively just let yourself get swept up and float away in these beautiful sweeping songs either way an hour of your time very well spent and an hour you will want to relive many times over.
Not many bands put this much time and effort into putting an album together that takes you on a journey, and one definitely best experienced as a piece front to back as opposed to individual tracks.
Doom has never sounded so alluring.

So far were off to a good start Eminem drops first single "Houdini" with a brilliant video portraying the Eminem of Debut album fame and Eminem of now engaged in superhero rap battle, and as you would expect for a big comeback single it's big bold and colourful with a big chorus hook courtesy of a sample used from Steve Miller band Abracadabra. A great song and while it doesn't try a whole lot new and maybe playing things a little safe it shows Em clearly hasn't lost his way with a good hook and melody.
Second single the Spiderman and Star Wars referencing (within first few seconds) "Tobey" another great single and better than "Houdini" in my opinion seems to take more risks melody wise, flow wise and hook wise as if the first single announced "Shady's back" and now it's down to the real business and is definitely one of his better tracks in recent years.
A few days before the album release Eminem reveals the brilliant cover art with his head in a body bag popping out signalling the end of something and the start of something new perhaps?
And a tracklist showing fewer skits(always a good thing) and listing Guilty Conscience 2 As a track, things could get really interesting from here I think ..............
As introduction "Renaissance" gives way to "Habits" (A great song by the way) a few things become clear from the start, Eminem is in great voice, the production is crystal clear (this continues throughout the album despite the numerous production credits) and also in our PC world god is it good to have this guy back!!
Some would say juvenile to hear a man of Ems age rapping about such subjects and general toilet humour but I think it's safe to say we can all be in agreement it's all meant tongue in cheek and comforting in a strange sort of way to hear he hasn't changed all that much from that "so offensive" debut many moons ago.
In fact it's great to hear the humour back in general as the last few albums he was in danger of that angry middled aged man lashing out just for the sake of angers sake, so it's good to have the fun Em back here.
Or is that the younger version of himself were hearing as old and young characters appear throughout, time will tell or maybe the next videos will who knows........
"Evil" "Antichrist" and "Guilty Conscience 2" being highlights in this must be return to form album and in my view picks up the slack of the latter years and comes in as his best since maybe MM2LP.
While its been on constant repeat it's still too early to tell where it actually falls in the cannon (that will take a few months)
It's a relief to know he's back to his best, the fun and the serious and of course the non PC and ya gotta at least be pleased with that.
