Alan Shapiro's Album Reviews

When you think of a five star album you would think every song would be magnificent however "physical graffiti" is not a magnificent double album and I don't see how this gets five stars.
The album starts off with two average songs and then goes into 11 minutes of meandering that sounds like a garage band trying to work out their parts. Side one has nothing memorable. Side two on the other hand is Led Zeppelin being magnificent. "Houses of the holy," "trampled underfoot," and "Kashmir," is probably one of the finest sides of rock 'n' roll. Side three and four are no better than side one.
A significant bit of evidence as to how average this double album is, is the lack of radio play except for side number two and it is the strength of that side that allows me to give this album three stars because without side two this album really would be worthless.
Comparing the Led Zeppelin albums that came before it, "Physical graffiti" doesn't even come close to those other brilliant albums.
