Born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, on March 28, 1936, Zdenek Sverák is best known as an actor and writer. His works include screenplays for such critically acclaimed films as Kolja and Obenca Skola (The Elementary School), as well as hundreds of books, musical works, and other films. He was also a radio personality during the years of Communist-controlled Czechoslovakia, and in 1966 founded the Theater of Jara Cimrman. A 2007 CD collaboration with Jaroslav Uhlír entitled 20 Let Pisnicek z Poradu Hodina Zpevu was a solid success in the Czech Republic, peaking at number three. Sverák & Uhlír followed that recording with Hity a Skorohity in 2008.
