Formed in 1998 and coined after Bob Harris, a '60s British television star, this Oxford-based band slowly but steadily grew in musical depth and critical acclaim. Joe Bennett and his brother, Robin, soon joined forces with Jef Clayton and Simon Davis. By 1999, a publishing and recording contract was signed as the group went to work recording in their bedrooms on an ancient seven-track recorder. The band's first single, "Don't Bring Me Down," received airplay on BBC's Radio 1 and caught the eye of London's New Musical Express. After some lineup changes, primarily in the rhythm section, the group released its debut album in November 2001.
