b. c.1961, England, d. 6 April 1994. Also known by the less licentious name Spud Jones, Tongueman was a notorious advocate of the homosexual lifestyle, adopting a sado-masochistic, pornographic stance rather than the camp musical format so often associated with gay men: ‘What you must realise is that a lot of homosexual men aren’t jolly and camp. They’re obsessed with sex and death’, he once told the press. His own demise from AIDS in April 1994 passed largely unnoticed in the mainstream media, but he retained a strong cult following for his work, even though none of his albums or cassettes are ever likely to be sold in mainstream retail outlets.
