Buffalo Gals comprised Susie Monick (banjo), Carol Siegel (mandolin/dulcimer), Martha Trachtenberg (guitar/vocals), Sue Raines (fiddle) and Nancy Josephson (bass). They started when three undergraduates at Syracuse University - Monick, Siegel and guitarist Debby Gabriel - formed an old-time bluegrass trio. Gabriel left to concentrate on art and Trachtenberg and Josephson were recruited. By 1974 Raines was in the line-up and the group was playing clubs and festivals. The band moved to Nashville in 1976 and Siegel and Raines were replaced by Lainie Lyle and Kristin Wilkinson, respectively. Monick released a solo album, Melting Pot, and the band folded in 1979. In the 90s, Monick played mandolin and accordion for Richard Dobson’s band State Of The Heart.
