UK act Tangled Feet are the brainchild of Jason Relf, who is responsible for guitars, keyboards, bass and programming as well as vocals. Relf began his career at the age of 16, writing, arranging and playing bass in a 12-piece funk band, Zoock, which kindled his interest in production after he oversaw their three studio sessions. Beginning to use sequencers for the first time in mid-1989, he released his first single under the name of Solar Plexus which had some strong reviews from the dance music press and which received support from top DJs such as Sasha. He then moved on to Astralasia, and played keyboards on their first single, ‘Celestial Ocean’, and co-wrote and performed on their second single and album, ‘Politics Of Ecstasy’. While still a member of the band he began to collaborate with Scott James, DJ at the well-known ‘Shave Yer Tongue’ club. Together they released two singles under the name S.Y.T., ‘Cairo Eclipse’, on the Sabres Of Paradise label, and ‘Blooma’, on Leftfield’s Hard Hands imprint. Relf was joined in Tangled Feet by his friend and associate Paul Douglas (vocals, guitar, programming) in late 1993. Their first release together was ‘Messiah’, which also featured the Rays, a band Relf was producing at the same time. It was remixed by the Pylon King (who gained excellent reviews for releases such as ‘The Voices Of Khwan’ and ‘Zexos Empire’). Strangely, Tangled Feet found themselves signed to heavy metal label Music For Nations’ subsidiary, Devotion.
