SomethingLs evolved out of an acoustic group called August Miracle and Follett, which was established in Sacramento, CA, in 1995. The trio consisted of lead guitarist Tim Dierkes, lead vocalist Kathy Miracle, and harmonica player and guitarist Norm Follett. They took on the moniker SomethingLs a little over a year later, when they added drummer Billy "Radio" Shower to the lineup. Keyboardist and bass player Louis Hadrick came on board in the fall of 1996, and the band dropped its acoustic sound in favor of electric guitars. By the fall of 1997, another member had expanded the lineup -- this time the band added accordion player Torben Jensen. Within six months, the band headed into Sacramento's Paradise Studios to work on its first album, Xsqueeze Me While I Whip This Out. The lineup shifted again in October of 1998, when bassist Hadrick dropped out because of parental and work duties, and Randy Frazier stepped in to fill the position. The group launched its first CD with a party held in the Hard Rock Café's Sacramento branch. Their single, "Whip Me," received some local airplay.
