UK band formed in November 1998 by Ian Brown (guitar/vocals), Jason Scopes (guitar), Matt Round (bass), and Dominique Metz (drums). Although based in rural Suffolk the quartet’s hearts lie in the deep heartlands of America, mining a rich seam of country rock in the manner of their sorely missed compatriots the Rockingbirds and contemporaries Grand Drive. Recording sessions for the band’s debut album went so well that Deep Blue Sky was released barely a year after their formation. The album was issued on the band’s Topers Rant label and received polite reviews from the UK press. The quartet managed to translate much more of their energetic live show onto record with their second release, 2002’s Something Good, Something Bad. Leaning further towards pop rock than alt country, the album confirmed the Smouldering Sons Of The West as one of the UK’s most promising unsigned bands.
