Artist Biography by

A highly regarded 70s Yorkshire, England folk band, surprisingly neglected. Billed as ‘Barnsley’s First Folk Rock band’, Oscar The Frog had far more energy than most of the competition of the time. Despite definite power pop overtones, they deserve consideration for adapting the Ian Dury hit to ‘Hit Me With Your Morris Stick’. Members included Ian McMillan (b. 1956, Yorkshire, England; drums), Steve Sutcliffe (violin), Mark Walker (bass), Jim Thompson (guitar/keyboard), Sue Banks (flute, mandolin, concertina), Roy Whyke (drums), and Stephen Linstead (vocals).

On leaving Oscar The Frog McMillan and his friend Martyn Wiley formed Jaws, a folk and poetry duo. Since the early 80s McMillan has been a broadcaster, journalist and poet. In the new millennium he was heard on BBC Radio 3 presenting a programme on poetry, The Verb.
