Proclaiming themselves ‘dance terrorists’, the samples used on this Swedish trio’s debut album built on the traditions of Test Department and others by using speeches from world leaders, in this case marrying George Bush and Saddam Hussein to a backbeat on ‘It’s Still Cloudy In Saudi Arabia’. The group was formed in 1992 by Johan Söderburg (percussion), Lars Åkerlund (samples) and Sebastian Öberg (electric cello). The relentless barrage of samples were adopted in a vein more prevalent within hip-hop than the dance scene, though Lucky People Center are firmly placed in the latter by the dominance of rhythm over lyrics.
