Havana-born pianist Juana Zayas began her career at a very early age, performing complicated classical pieces as a little girl. She graduated from the Peyrellade Conservatory at age 11 and left Cuba to attend the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique de Paris. She studied piano and chamber music, eventually moving to England and then New York to continue her studies. She was also married during this period, but the birth of her three sons put her career on hold while she raised them at home. After almost 15 years, she came out of retirement and began to record classical albums, eventually releasing her own albums under the label Zayas Masterworks, Inc.
