Artist Biography

Simon Barker (b. 22 July 1956, Malta; keyboards), Derek Dunbar (b. 31 August 1958, Aberdeen, Scotland; vocals), Carla Duplantier (b. Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA; drums), Flinto (b. 11 March 1955, Zambia; bass) and Mark Rutherford (b. 14 April 1961, Hackney, London, England; guitar) formed the band in 1982. Malcolm McLaren gave them the name and a support tour with Bow Wow Wow. Cris Cole stepped in on bass guitar, and in 1983 they signed to CBS Records subsidiary Innervision. That year brought them their one hit, ‘Tantalise (Wo Wo Ee Yeh Yeh)’, a good pop song with an African influence. Along with Innervision stablemates Wham! and Animal Nightlife, the group had ‘legal’ problems that interfered with the promotion of the second single, ‘Kill Me Quick’, and constrained them for many months.
