Chilean heavy metal band Inquisición was formed in June of 1993 by ex-Torturer guitarist Manolo Shaffler and drummer Carlos Hernández, who were joined the following year by ex-Panzer Freddie Alexis. The band started playing under the name of Santa Inquisición, shortening to one word in 1995. A year later, ex-Psikis bassist Christian Maturana joined in. In 1997, Inquisición's debut album, called Steel Vengeance, was released by the independent label Deifer Records, soon after making a video based on its song "Innocent Sinner." In 1998, the group participated in a compilation called In Nomini, issued by Toxic Records. That same year, the band's second album, called Black Leather From Hell, came out.
