In the Summer of the Mushroom Honey are an outfit composed of members of late-twentieth-century midwestern bands Faraday Cage, Tombstone Valentine, Many Bright Things, and Ibid, among other musicians. In April 1998, they recorded their self-titled album of psychedelic-oriented improvisational music live in the studio in one day. The record, diffuse and diverse, employs a total of ten musicians on various instruments (mostly guitar), varying from repetitious groove jams to folky interludes to extended pieces incorporating combination sung/chanted vocals. A layer of jammy mysticism hovers over the proceedings.
