EK Nyame is one of the most referenced figures in Ghanaian music by other musicians. He was one of the main players in the guitar highlife tradition, which was to interweave with, among other things, the palmwine tradition. In the postwar years, Nyame updated the guitar highlife band by adding jazz elements, along with Latin percussion elements. He also began singing in the local language (Twi) instead of the usual form of singing in the "official" language of state (English in Ghana) or in the local form of Pidgin. Along with his musical innovations, Nyame updated his trio into a full entertainment troupe, with plays interspersed into the concert and a full party atmosphere outbreaking by the end of the concert. As of 1994, none of Nyame's work had been released outside of Ghana however.
