b. c.1958, Edinburgh, Scotland. Mr Egg is a bald Scot and former plumber who took the name for his techno operation from a Can album. The group began as a band back in the mid-80s, touring a tacky cabaret show with on-stage S&M and a papier-mâché penis which squirted shaving foam. Despite such antics, he built his reputation with a series of increasingly successful acid tracks. These include the Indigestion EP (1991) and ‘Highblow’ (Groove Kissing 1991), though the then-group’s career had first begun way back in 1986 with ‘Circumstances’ on Survival. His mini-album, Ex Ovo Omnia (meaning ‘everything comes from the egg’ in Latin) was released on Finitribe’s Finiflex imprint, and included such delights as ‘The Good, The Bad And The Acid’. It was distinguished by the fact that all the effects were played live, without the use of either a sampler or DAT machine. He uses his new-found fortunes to invest in vast quantities of his chosen passion: eggs. He has continued to develop his talents as a remixer for such as the Fugues (‘Sensityzed’).
