Artist Biography by

Ed White was a Canadian traditional jazz performer whose vocalizing and cornet solos were highlights of sets by the Sultan Six Jazz Band and Jazz Rascals. He succumbed to lung cancer in 2001, leaving behind several musically talented offspring. While Jennifer White's speciality is the Celtic harp, Ben White's musical interests fell closer to his old man's. He tended to play banjo and tenor guitar in the same groups his father did. Both can be heard on the Jazz Rascals' self-titled 1996 CD on the Bead label.

Venues such as London, Ontario's Delta Armories Hotel regularly hosted combos with White at events such as Sunday brunches. In 1999 the Jazz Rascals toured the United States and Canada, claiming a Best Band award at the Bix Beiderbecke International Jazz Festival in Davenport, IA. "When I get up there, there'll be some fine jam sessions to attend," White reportedly commented on his impending demise. He should not be confused with the Ed White who recorded on trumpet for dance bands in the '20s -- but he probably wouldn't mind if he was.
