Doug Shepherd began his musical career in the early 1990s in California, collaborating with members of Tiger Trap and Knapsack. After relocating to Portland, Oregon in 1993, he released his first album, the Trying to Draw on a Moving Train cassette, on 20/20 Sound Records. Shepherd relocated to New Jersey in 1995. While in New Jersey, his songs appeared on compilations CDs on St. Francis, Silver Girl and Zum Records. In 1998, Shepherd recorded with Aislers Set/Track Star guitarist Wyatt Cusick, songs which eventually appeared on 2001's Mass Amounts of Love CD on Champion of the New Plastic Age Records. 2002 saw the release of Shepherd's Type Foundry Sessions EP on Where It's At Is Where You Are Records. He also spent part of 2002 recording the Wavelab Sessions EP at Arizona's Wavelab Studios.
