DJ 13 (born Carlos Julio Molina) is known as a Latin hip-hop pioneer in Venezuela, where he joined a band called la Corte which became one of the first local acts to perform that style. Carlos Julio Molina, aka Tony Armas, and Johnny Flecha studied art and design in the U.S. After obtaining a degree in plastic art from San Francisco's Art Institute, he soon decided to get involved in popular music, adopting the nickname of DJ 13 in 1997. Fivetimesloco became his debut album, featuring contributions by Argenis Brito, aka SeƱor Coconut, Sur Carabela's bassist Ervin Schafer, and singer Annabella Almenar.
