A California native, David Gonzales began writing album reviews in the Philippines in 1993 for 2 newspapers aimed at the expatriate audience. He then wrote weekly rock album reviews as a columnist for Manila Times and weekly jazz album reviews as a columnist for BusinessWorld. He's written rock, jazz and concert reviews and also artist interviews since mid-1996 for the Philippine Daily Inquirer, the country's most widely distributed newspaper, and has contributed articles about music to several Filipino magazines. He was Philippines correspondent to Music News Asia in late 1996, and became Philippines correspondent to Billboard in October of 1997.He was the only print journalist given a one-on-one interview with jazz trumpeter Wynton Marsalis during Marsalis' visit to Manila in March of 1998.He was a judge for the 1998 NU107 Rock Awards, the Philippines' premier rock awards show. He holds a degree in English from San Jose State University in California and has contributed book reviews to the Oakland Tribune, among other newspapers.
