Rock drummers named David Burns have to worry about being mixed up with each other, not to mention the myriad other performers with this name in genres from Broadway to boogaloo. In some cases, the man's accent would be the key to telling them apart. The drummer David Burns who is associated with a band named Ikon is Australian, for example, so his accent would be markedly different than that of the American rock drummer of the same name from bands such as Thumbnail. Their drum accents would also be strikingly different, since Ikon is considered one of the greatest Australian Goth bands.
Burns is one of the original members, along with the pairing of Chris McCarter and Anthony Griffiths: guitarists as well as singers. Rounding out the original quartet was bassist Dino Molinaro -- and there's a real Melbourne name, as anyone aware of the city's enormous Italian population would understand. The band was influenced by groups such as Joy Division, New Order, and Death in June, and since the early '90s has toured not only in Australia, but throughout Europe. The group may have set a record for appearing not only on the most compilations, but on the most compilations that the band itself is not even aware of.
