b. Theodore Bennett, c.1902, USA, d. 28 November 1965, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Although he never recorded, Bennett is frequently cited by other trumpeters as an outstanding talent with ideas well ahead of his time. His cousin, Benny Carter, considered him to be so harmonically advanced that in the 20s he was playing in a way others would not emulate for another two decades. Bennett worked for many bands in and around New York but was footloose and showed little interest in a steady job, preferring instead to hang out and play the way he wanted. Bennett eventually disappeared from the scene.
