Originally known as Puncture, this group formed in Vancouver in 2000 as the brainchild of lead singer Meegan Maultsaid. Maultsaid, a longtime singer and activist on social issues, also was responsible for the creation of Grrrlapalooza, an all-female version on the popular alternative rock showcase. In 2001, the group entered the studio to record its first full-length album. At the same time, original drummer Stuart Sproule left for Europe and was replaced by Khris Harvie. The band signed to the acclaimed alternative label G7 Welcoming Committee and released Profit Prophet in May 2002. A five-week North American tour in support of the album was scheduled. The group has opened and shared the stage with Kinnie Starr, Day Glo Abortions, and Submission Hold.
