US rock band Carillo took their name from singer/guitarist Frank Carillo, formerly of Doc Holiday (not to be confused with Doc Holliday). Formed in 1977 with Jan Mullaney (keyboards), Jimmy Haslip (bass) and David Donen (drums), Carillo made their debut in 1978 with Rings Around The Moon for Atlantic Records. Expertly played but lacking the impact of Carillo’s previous work, the follow-up collection, Streets Of Dreams, was a great improvement and a return to the bracing hard rock style of Doc Holiday. However, with flagging sales Atlantic did not renew the group’s contract, and Mullaney and Haslip went on to work with Blackjack.
