Singer/songwriter Brad Byrd was born and grew up in Massachusetts, where he decided on a career in music at an early age. While attending Syracuse University, he polished his songwriting skills along with such friends as Adam Cohen and Peter Yorn. After graduating, he moved to New York where he cut demos and sought to gain a foothold in the local music scene. Eventually, he decided he might do better in California and moved to Los Angeles in the fall of 2001. There, he began working with producer Evan Frankfort (the Jayhawks, the Wallflowers) on his debut album, The Ever Changing Picture, which he promoted extensively on the Internet before signing to Free Agency Records, which released the CD in March 2005.
