Arne Astrup is best-known as a writer who has put together bio-discographies on Stan Getz, Zoot Sims, Brew Moore and Gerry Mulligan. However, he has also played tenor since he was a teenager. A cool-toned stylist, Astrup has been a steady fixture on the Danish jazz scene since the 1940s, mostly as a leader of his own combos, although in the 1950s he played with the Ib Glindemann and Peter Rasmussen big bands. A couple of selections that he made as a leader in 1942 have never been issued. Otherwise, Astrup led dates in 1955-58, 1975, and the 1980s, the latter sessions for the Olufsen label.
