The traditional drumming of Sierre Leone was brought to Germany by ex-Miriam Makeba sideman Ansumana Bangura. Currently a teacher in Cologne, Germany, Bangura continues to explore a deeply personal musical approach, Fankadama, that blends in everything from African folk music to Western jazz, pop, and rock. Drumming from the age of five, Bangura performed with Makeba's Guinea-based band throughout the 1970s. Relocating to Germany in 1980, he spent several years as a homeless drifter. He began to get his life together in the late '80s.
