AllMusic Review by

The true stars of West Nigerian pop music are the percussionists, who mix Islamic singing, local drumming, and Afro-Cuban feedback in endless permutations of voices and drums. Here are five different styles, all 20th century, all true street music, all different, all recorded for the local market in the '60s. Percussive offshoots of juju are joined by very early fuji, apala, sakara, the Latin-tinged agidigbo, and waka, the women's music.
