Of the four LPs released by Xanadu that document an all-star concert from the Montreux Jazz Festival, this one is the most intriguing. Pianist Barry Harris has two features with his trio (which includes bassist Sam Jones and drummer Frank Butler), tenorman Al Cohn plays a duet with Harris ("More than You Know") and fellow tenor Billy Mitchell makes the group a quintet on "Xanadues" and a roaring "Cotton Tail" but the highpoint is the unaccompanied Cohn-Mitchell duet on "Emaline." This is classic and timeless music that deserves to be reissued on CD.
