This hard-to-find Outrageous Cherry EP was issued, in a limited pressing, by the Michigan-based Mind Expansion label, a small imprint run by Randall Nieman of the space rock group Füxa (Nieman's label has also released various other recordings by Füxa and Windy & Carl, to name just a few). At the time it was recorded, Outrageous Cherry was between projects: they hadn't yet signed to Del-Fi's short-lived DF2K imprint and their next album for the tiny Third Gear label, Nothing's Gonna Cheer You Up, hadn't yet been recorded because the band's rhythm section had been spirited away to work with Warn Defever's His Name Is Alive. When Nieman asked group leader Matthew Smith if there were any Outrageous Cherry tracks he could release on his label, Smith quickly organized an impromptu recording session in drummer Deb Agolli's home kitchen. Mike E. Clark of Insane Clown Posse (a friend of Agolli's -- she's appeared on their records) sat in and helped produce and engineer. Overall, the results are varied, but this fine release did produce a few real gems, including Outrageous Cherry's most sublime three-minute slice of perfection, "Only Your Yesterdays." At the time, Smith's voice was reportedly giving him a bit of trouble, so clearer vocals were overdubbed months later. "The Book of Dead Time" emerged out of a jam where the band was reportedly checking the recording levels. Outrageous Cherry had previously recorded the Silver Apples' "Misty Mountain" for a tribute, Electronic Evocations, but Smith wasn't happy when the Enraptured label issued a rough mix instead of waiting for the final version, which is included here.
