Recorded as a tour-only release with stand-in drummer Chris Powell, who throws in some amusing fills on the opening "Godspeed," Winged With Rhymes is a touch sprightlier and goofier than Peace, making it more than just a time killer. Possibly the group was influenced by fellow Philadelphians Bent Leg Fatima, or maybe the Elephant 6 collective came through town, but the results are quite enjoyable, though those expecting more of the same from Peace will definitely be taken a touch off guard. Werth sounds lighter in the vocal department this time out, almost strained, while "Godspeed" itself has quirky bass drop-ins and other unexpected touches kicking around with the guitar crunches. "Twenty Minutes of the Day" has an almost breezy feeling to it, helped by the home organ sound that plays the lead melody. "After All" wraps it up with another blend of softly chiming whimsy and overdriven guitar.
