After working with ex-LCD Soundsystem leader James Murphy on his 2010 film Greenberg, director Noah Baumbach decided it would be good to bring him back on his 2015 film While We're Young to again provide the score. Only three pieces make it from Murphy's instrumental score onto the soundtrack album: a short lullaby-ish cover of David Bowie's "Golden Years" and two atmospheric synthesizer works. Otherwise, the songs on the soundtrack release were all chosen by Baumbach, mostly taken from an era when the film's forty-something characters would have indeed been young. It's an odd but fun mix with a little new wave ("The Ghost in You"), some classic rock (the real "Golden Years," "Eye of the Tiger"), some Vivaldi, and one "new" song by HAIM (a remix of "Falling" by Duke Dumont), making for a very eclectic listening experience.
