For this collector's LP from the English Hep label, the innovative Boyd Raeburn Orchestra is heard on five separate occasions during its prime periods. The music (mostly arranged by George Handy, Eddie Finckel or Johnny Richards) is quite adventurous with plenty of surprising moments. The personnel changes drastically from date to date; the key soloists include pianist Dodo Marmarosa, trombonist Britt Woodman, trumpeter Ray Linn, Harry Klee (taking a rare early flute solo on "Caravan"), clarinetist Buddy DeFranco, tenorman Frank Socolow and vocalists David Allyn and Ginnie Powell. This is a particularly strong all-round set that displays the uniqueness of the remarkable but short-lived ensemble.
