AllMusic Review by

For the eighth volume in the saga of Jim Cullum, Sr.'s Happy Jazz Band, the veteran clarinetist and his octet (which had stable personnel since its formation in 1962) perform a variety of Dixieland and swing standards with spirit and melodic invention. Highlights include "Way Down Yonder in New Orleans," "She's Cryin' for Me," "My Honey's Lovin' Arms" and "King Porter Stomp," although all dozen numbers on this LP should delight Dixieland fans. In addition to the leader, the group in 1970 consisted of cornetist Jim Cullum, Jr., trombonist Gene McKinney, pianist Cliff Gillette, Curly Williams on banjo and guitar, Wilson Davis on sousaphone, bassist George Pryor and drummer Harvey Kindervater. All of the releases on the Happy Jazz and (before that) Audiophile labels by this fun group are well worth searching for.
