The collector's label Arcadia found a niche by reissuing obscure recordings from territory bands of the 1920s and early '30s. On this LP, their first release, all of the music is by Los Angeles-based bands. Included are the two titles by Kid Ory's 1921 or 1922 band (which went by the odd title of "Spikes Seven Pods of Pepper Orchestra") along with various groups led by pianist Sonny Clay, Reb Spikes' Majors and Minors, the Dixie Serenaders and the excellent Curtis Mosby and his Dixieland Blue Blowers including the soundtrack of their appearance in the 1929 film Hallelujah. This historic music is easily recommended to collectors of 1920s jazz.
