Wanna Be is essentially a sampler for New York-based VP Records. VP was founded in 1979 as a retail store by Vincent "Randy" Chin, and it has grown into the largest independent label for Jamaican music in the United States. The label specializes in hip-hop-flavored dancehall, and the tracks here, all produced by Darron Grant, follow the standard VP template of releasing sexy and upbeat dance tunes. Highlights include Edwin Yearwood's "Days of My Life," and a pair of insanely bouncy tracks called "Show It Off" and "Girls Time" from Keann.
