AllMusic Review by

Collectors of prebop music were delighted when the Meritt Record Society came out with an extensive series of LPs in the early '80s, but dismayed when the label eventually ceased operations. This particular album is comprised of otherwise unknown radio performances by Slim And Slam (the jive group featuring guitarist Slim Gaillard and bassist Slam Stewart), pianist/vocalist Fats Waller (from 1936, 1939 and 1942), Leo Watson (scatting briefly and playing drums on "Honeysuckle Rose" with strong support from the John Kirby Sextet) and the otherwise unknown Les And Scotty (who use a similar instrument imitation concept as the early Mills Brothers). Entertaining if not essential music.
