AllMusic Review by

Kentucky-born Carlisle was of the generation that turned regional rural styles into a national idiom with a rich mix of influences. Jimmy Rogers was an obvious role-model, as were both the Black blues and Hawaiian music. Carlisle became a popular performer in the South of the 1930s, whence presumably come these recordings (the album notes are disappointingly sketchy).
