In the collection Latin American Composers in the U.S. This work for chamber orchestra are musical equivalents of the literary style known as "magical realism." "In these compositions 'things' have voices with spaces to be discovered and explored, and those voices, as if they were sorcerers, perform magic." (Mercedes Otero). There are two movements in Voces II -- the first, "Por los espacios de la voz" (Through the spaces of the voice), opens with a sustained chord which is then expanded by fleeting, gently rhythmic, free serialist-style scoring, and the second, "Tu voz de fuego blanco" (Your voice of white fire), which, like its title implies, is energetic, with splendid timbral coloration and with Varése-like bursts and multiple calls somewhere between birds and trumpets.
